Community strengthening is the process through which a community acquires, empowers, and manages its resources and capacities to promote and achieve change in circumstances that harm them. This article summarizes a larger study that analyzes the process of community strengthening in the Association of Displaced Women “Mama Quilla”. Using a qualitative methodology, concluded that arpillería is the main resource to promote community strengthening of the arpilleras because it benefits them emotionally, through the externalization of their experiences, and allows them to participate in public spaces to claim their collective demands and protest for their rights to change the circumstances that affect them as a result of political violence, such as the lack of reparations for the political violence.
