Avenida Larco (2017): Rancière and (not) politics in underground rock and cumbia in Peru of the 80’s and 90’s
Keywords:
peruvian film, Rancière, politics, underground rock, rock-cumbiaAbstract
According to the French philosopher Jacques Rancière, something/someone enters the category of politics when it contradicts both police and «political» logic. From its own configuration, it allows us to listen as a discourse what once was noise and to perceive a new world once previously invisible. Based on these thoughts, this essay aims to understand the film Avenida Larco (2017) in terms of Rancière. Accordingly, I analyze, within the film, the (non)political aspects in the representation of underground rock, rockcumbia, and musical lyrics.
