The purpose of this article is to identify the memories of students and teachers from the Professional School of History on the period of military intervention in the National University of San Marcos from 1991 to 1998. After briefly addressing the characterization of public universities made by the Armed Forces, which was used as justification for the intervention; we’ll identify the counter-subversive actions practiced by the Army (the erasement of paintings, permanent vigilance, and spying). Finally, we aim to complexify the interventional discourse based on the memories collected, as well as to make visible some of the consequences for the university community.
