Guidelines for authors

Historia y Cultura is an annual publication of the National Museum of Archaeology, Anthropology, and History of Peru (Ministry of Culture). It receives original articles, in Spanish or English, from national and international researchers addressing topics related to Peruvian or Latin American history. The journal accepts all thematic approaches and is especially interested in expanding its publications in art history. Articles must be unpublished and stand out for their scientific rigor. The journal also accepts book reviews and academic notes.

Historia y Cultura follows the guidelines of The Chicago Manual of Style, specifically the “notes and bibliography” format, which can be consulted at www.chicagomanualofstyle.org. Manuscripts for articles, reviews, and academic notes that do not follow this format will be returned to the author for revision.

Submissions received by June 2026 will be considered for that year’s issue.

The authors do not pay for the processes of submission, review, editing and publication of their articles.

Article Submission

The article manuscript must be submitted in Word format and must not exceed 12,000 words, excluding footnotes. Notes accompanying figures and tables, as well as the bibliography, are included within this word limit. Please ensure that images and tables are part of the analysis and are mentioned in the text; otherwise, we recommend not including them.

Authors must include in their manuscript an abstract in Spanish and English (maximum 200 words), along with the title and keywords, also in both languages.

All images accompanying the manuscript must be submitted in JPG or TIFF format, in high resolution (minimum 300 dpi), and with the source indicated. It is the author’s responsibility to obtain reproduction rights and provide the necessary information if required. Tables must be submitted as PDF files. Images and tables should be labeled “figure” or “table” followed by the corresponding number in order of appearance (e.g., figure 1, figure 2, figure 3).

Article manuscripts must be sent to the editor’s email (aescudero@cultura.gob.pe) with a copy to the journal’s email (publicaciones.hyc-mnaahp@cultura.gob.pe). Authors are requested to attach a personal information form (full name, email address, institutional affiliation, ORCID, and a brief biographical note) and the declaration available at the following link: Personal Information Form and Declaration.

Review Submission

Historia y Cultura accepts reviews of books published within the last four years and priority will be given to books published in the year before. If the book is older, the author may contact the editor and justify the importance of reviewing it.

Reviews should be approximately 1,500 words and written in Chicago style. We also accept reviews of a group of books with a common theme (e.g., 3 or 4 books), presented as short bibliographic essays of around 3,000 words.

Reviews must be sent to the editor’s email (aescudero@cultura.gob.pe) with a copy to the journal’s email (publicaciones.hyc-mnaahp@cultura.gob.pe). Include your full name and institutional affiliation at the end of your review.

Note Submission

Historia y Cultura also publishes notes of academic interest, such as annotated documentary sources, opinion essays, presentations of research or pedagogical tools, among others.

If you are interested in submitting a note, contact the editor (aescudero@cultura.gob.pe) with a copy to the journal’s email (publicaciones.hyc-mnaahp@cultura.gob.pe). For your note, follow Chicago style, include a title in Spanish and English, and provide a brief abstract in both languages.
