Abstract

This article focuses on three main questions regarding Paracas post-firing pottery painting: How is it possible that post-firing painting lasted so long? What special characteristics did the binding resin had? Which was its origin?
With the aid of different institutions, we were able clarify and answer these questions through physical and chemical analysis from clay, binder identification, painting types and finishing, firing system, and technique.
