Challenges, reassessments, and advances in the archaeology of the Chimú empire

Abstract

In this synthesis and overview of the publications included in this volume, we provide a general assessment of the topics addressed by the authors. These include a reassessment of the establishment of the Chimú heartland, the ceremonial nature of large-scale sacrifices, studies of pan-regional material culture at incorporated sites, new chronological frameworks, exchange networks, and other key aspects of this important cultural complex. We offer a review and reflection that contribute to a better understanding of the Chimú phenomenon and its impact within Andean archaeology.
